Excuses for Not Being Fit
The ‘Biggest Loser’ fitness trainer Jillian Michaels gives her advice on people’s wavering willpower to exercise. If only we had her self-discipline and drive to hit the gym or eat less, we would have bodies as fit as . . . well, hers.
All of us can relate; getting up on a cold morning is a hard thing to do. As far as I’m concerned, I would rather roll back into bed than move my stiff rear end to the park. Going to the gym can also be an off-putting activity that more often we concoct excuses just to get out of it. As a trainer who takes no excuses, Jillian sticks it to the weak and the irresolute.
Most people would say they have no time to exercise. But Jillian says that it should be the last thing to go. Taking care of oneself should be considered one’s priority. “If you don't take care of yourself, you'll have less energy to be that supportive person in your loved ones' lives.”
Gym membership fees can discourage some people. To do this, Jillian responds, “Commit to a $100 investment in 10 fitness DVDs and you'll have enough variety for six months at least. You can do a whole workout—sit-ups, jumping jacks, squats—without any equipment. And imagine the cost of taking diabetes meds for the rest of your life—much more than the extra $50 a month you should spend on groceries and fish."
Boredom can sometimes get the best of most of us. Counting the repetitions from doing those weight lifts. The trick here, according to Jillian, is play a good beat to pump you up for the workout. Lastly, Jillian also relates that running is one of the best ways to lose those extra pounds. Though she hates running, she does a 10-minute mile run. That way, she loses those excess pounds fast as well as improving her cardiovascular system.
