Trainers Expressed Fear over Contestants’ Health
Celebrity trainers from the hit reality show The Biggest Loser expressed fear that someone from the show might die.
Fitness experts Jillian Michaels and Michelle Bridges are worried that the drastic diets and extreme workouts spell death for the plus-size contestants. Jillian says the trainers have no control over the grueling workouts that the contestants go through. Fearing that someone might collapse in one of their activities, Michelle, on the other hand, says in an interview that, “I have many sleepless nights concerned about their welfare, concerned about their health and concerned about their headspace.”
“I would definitely say they (producers) take [sic] it to the edge,” Michelle adds.
Jillian relates that she was overweight during her teens; thus, it fueled her motivation to lose excess poundage. In her adolescent years, she enrolled in a martial arts class. No wonder her exercise regimen today consists highly of kickboxing, along with yoga, plyometrics, Pilates and weight training. At present, she lives in Los Angeles.
In October 2009, network giant NBC announced that Jillian will star in a spin-off series similar to the hit reality weight-loss show. The new series is “Losing it with Jillian.” Cast for the show, however, is not yet complete as of this writing.
Michelle first appeared on the show in 2007, and was also a co-trainer alongside Jillian on the Red Team. She eventually took over the full-time training duties when Jillian left during the middle of the series.
Aside from The Biggest Loser, Michelle also appears on the Nine Network show, “Mornings with Kerri-Anne,” as its health and fitness expert.
In The Biggest Loser, the show uses weight-loss methods that involve calorie restriction coupled with strenuous daily exercises. Accordingly, it bears a heavy risk on the weakening of the heart muscles considering the circumstances surrounding the cast members. The Biggest Loser contestants, however, are supervised by doctors with respect to their diet and workouts, which are individually met for each contestant’s medical needs.
